Self-care is a buzz word these days, but it is sooo important.  I’m a mom so I’m used to burning the candle at both ends, but over the past month I’ve literally lost the flicker in my eyes.  This made me take a step back and evaluate my life.  I’m sure we all wish that when life throws a curve ball or two we could click an imaginary pause button until we figure things out, but that’s not reality.  In reality, we have to keep moving forward and figure things out along the way. But, how?

Here are the steps that I use:

Exercise your faith. Faith is the most important thing to have while going through tough times. Meditate, pray, and have faith that whatever you’re going through will work out.  I know it’s easier said than done.  This is why it’s important to exercise and strengthen your faith.

Practice self-care. Don’t sacrifice your rest!  Rest is paramount always, but especially when you are stressed.  Eat healthy, drink water, and exercise- even if this just means taking the stairs instead of the elevator.  Taking care of your body will not only help you feel better, but will fortify you to handle whatever you are dealing with.

Make time to do the things that rejuvenate you.  As women, we are programmed to be on top of everything.  It’s okay to put off washing the dishes to read a book, or go for a walk.  It’s crazy that we have to give ourselves permission to take time for ourselves, but a lot of us do.  Rejuvenation looks different for all of us.  For me, I like to get dressed up even if I have nowhere in particular to go just so I can say I still got it LOL!

I know these things may sound frivolous, but they work.  If you don’t believe me…try them for yourself!
