I'm Ready to Soar

In my previous post I talked about being in a bit of a slump and the importance of continuing to work toward goals.  When I wrote that post, I had no idea that I’d be going to hear T. D. Jakes speak later that day.  One of my friends texted me and asked me if I wanted to go.  Honestly, I thought of every excuse not to.  Not because I didn’t want to, but because when I’m in a slump it’s really hard for me to be social #introvertproblems.  Although this is one of my best friends and she’s been there with me through so much, I almost psyched myself out of something I ultimately really needed.

T. D. Jakes was promoting his latest book Soar and I’ll be honest, while I think he’s a great speaker and I admire his business acumen, I had zero intentions of buying his book.  That is…until he started talking and I felt as if he went into my mind and articulated things that I’ve been thinking/hoping/dreaming about for years.  ENTREPRENUERSHIP. He talked about his humble beginnings, his start as a businessman, and shared countless pearls of wisdom.  By the time his talk was coming to a close, he was shouting and so was I!  Needless to say, I was happy that I went.  My spirit felt rejuvenated and I felt even more determined to pursue my goals.

I went from having no intention of buying the book to having to have it.  That’s the power of a great speaker.  Did I drink the Kool aid?! I purchased Soar on Amazon over the weekend.  I can’t wait to read it!  One of the pearls T. D. Jakes shared was the importance of reading.  When I was in grad school, I didn’t have time to read anything that did not pertain to my studies and it’s been hard to shake that mentality.  I’ll literally start reading a book then sit it down and not pick it up again for weeks and end up having to start over.  I’m going to be intentional with reading this because I have a feeling that it may be just what I need 😊.
